Charles Nasmyth
Charles Nasmyth was born in London in 1954. After gaining a degree in Fine Art from Gloucestershire College of Art and Design, he embarked upon a career as a teacher and has now worked for many years at Stewarts Melville College in Edinburgh. He is also a landscape painter who has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions, and his work can be found in collections in the UK and America. However, in recent years he has re-kindled his interest in illustration, something that goes back to his student days when he illustrated George Orwells “Animal Farm”. His current project “ The Comic Legend of William McGonagall” is an epic attempt to illustrate the life and poetry of the world’s worst poet. The artist’s portrayal of Dundee’s notorious bard includes elements of surreal comedy, social satire and pathos, He will be presenting the work at the Baron’s Craig for the Skateraw fund raising event at the end of October.
