Julie Dumbarton
Julie has recently moved into a new studio, allowing her to work on larger canvases. The studio is a converted bakehouse, which retains many reminders of its previous life as a bakery. The Bakehouse Studio will also open for exhibitions throughout the year. The primary subject for her paintings is the land and the natural forces which effect it. Julie likes to paint landscapes where nature dominates, and tries to capture elements within the landscape that appeal to her the most. Julie is interested in diverse fragments and what makes up the fabric of the land - the trees, plants and flowers and even the occational farmhouse which, when put together, becomes a single image and experience. Colour is one of the most important aspects of julies paintings and this tends to dictate the composition of the painting. Julie uses a full pallet of colours which both compliment and contrast each other, and also uses this as a way of organising space within a picture. |
