In the last 3 years Jessie has extended her creative abilities into painting and has studied with well known Scottish artists Peter McLaren and Jacqueline Watt, as well as attending evening class at Edinburgh College of Art. Jessie's first exhibition was held in August 2006 at Balbirnie Art Gallery in Markinch when over half her paintings were sold in the first week and more recently sold 16 pieces from her studio at a Lower Largo group exhibition. Jessie has exhibited successfully in other galleries in Scotland and currently has work in Strathearn Gallery, Crieff ; Aberfeldy; Logie Gallery Forres; Tore Gallery, The Black Isle; Peter Potter Gallery Haddington; Greens and Blues, North Berwick; Smokehouse Gallery, Eyemouth; Number Four, St Abbs; Ruby Orange, Biggar; Rockcliffe, Dumfries; and Artroom 59, Dunfermline and does commissions on request. Her latest commission being a painting of the daughter of her Evening Class Tutor at Edinburgh Art College! Jessie paints in both acrylics and oils and her subject matter ranges from sea and landscapes to still life, portraits and figures and anything else! Often Jessie is inspired by a particular place, or by people in everyday situations and at present is working on some figurative work showing the more depressed side of life!! She loves the sea which features a great deal in her paintings but is also inspired by trees, mountains and moorland!! Almost anything can appeal and Jessie has just completed some more abstract pieces of derelict buildings and deserted streets as well as finishing two large paintings of lilies. Jessie works in both large and small scale paintings as well as doing some multii-media work. |
